DREAMS - Run TO them NOT FROM them
Children are natural dreamers. Adults are former dreamers and sometimes dream killers and skeptics. Somehow between childhood and adulthood, the maturing process has managed to snuff out the freedom to dream ...and follow a dream. We tend to see them as irrational, naive, impractical - we see pursuing them as irresponsible, childish, and idealistic. Yet inside each of us is a child who still dreams and longs to see a dream fulfilled. For many of my adult years, starting around college, I was afraid to dream. I saw it as setting myself up for disappointment - as immature. Instead, I chose to cling to what seemed to be the 'grown up' thing to do: find a job and stay as long as they allow me. Somehow, though, the little girl in me just wouldn't keep quiet. She insisted on having her way. Now my youth is being restored by simply listening to the younger version of me reminding me that nothing is impossible. I firmly believe we all have a dream inside. For some of us, it's laying dormant because we've silenced it. For others, it's alive but being suffocated by life's 'to-do' list or the expectations of others who are dear to us. My desire is to see the dream in each person be unleashed. This is such a burning passion for me that not only am I committed to eliminating distractions for high-achieveing working mothers (or mothers to be), but I am as committed to seeing my employees achieve their goals as well. Prior to being selected for the role of Personal Attaché, candidates must exhibit ambition and drive. All the Personal Attachés at Attaché Services, LLC are offered private, one-on-one coaching by me. This coaching is a time for them to focus soley on themselves, what's important to them, and where they are going. I've committed to them that I will personally feed their ambition and drive through our monthly time together, reviewing their goals and charting out a path to reach them. Many of them will not be with Attaché Services for life. But the things they will learn from their time with our company will remain with them for life. I don't feel threatened by dreams that don't include Attaché Services. I'm committed to helping individuals run towards their dreams, not from them.
Life is a series of choices. Each choice leads us in a certain direction. When all is said and done, we hope that the destination we've reached was the one we intended. Let's end with our dream being fulfilled, or at least in passionate pursuit of it.
The Importance of Good Parenting - Especially for Working Moms
The childhood years are so dear. Children are so trusting, so fearless, so honest, so open...they are so teachable and impressionable...so happy, so free...so full of life and energy. As a mother of 3, in my 30s, I see how people's 'issues' can be traced back to their childhood years. Many internal struggles, hangups, dysfunction, and insecurities experienced by adults come from childhood experiences. Many children never learn how to process failure, make good decisions, build healthy friendships, or cope with rejection and as a result, carry these problems into adulthood. Often times, a disappointing experience, if handled properly would have been a teachable moment. I'll give you an example. In February, my eldest son celebrated his 8th birthday. We planned a pool party, per his request. When he went to distribute the party invitations at school, he was pressured to change his party plans by an invitee who preferred laser tag. He came home insisting that we change plans. After my attempts to reason with him only seemed to upset him more, I was going to let him give in to peer pressure. After all, I didn't want him to have a sad birthday. Then, with the help of another mom, I came to my senses and saw this as an ideal teachable moment. What a great way to teach him to not let the opinions of others mean so much that he abandons his own desires (some people call this people pleasing). Those types of people (who care only about themselves) really aren't your friends. In fact, the best thing to do with someone who doesn't want to celebrate your birthday doing what you want to do is to leave them out. My son's birthday party was a blast, didn't involve laser tag and didn't include the party pooper. I'm learning if I miss a teachable moment with my kids, it won't just impact them today, but it may affect their adulthood, their relationships, and potentially their offspring also. As a working mom, it's very easy to find myself running on fumes by the time I arrive at home. I barely have enough energy to handle the basics and am tempted to sit the kids in front of the TV or send them to bed early while I do a few loads of laundry, clean up, and handle other household tasks. When I allow the loads of 'to-dos' to drain me, exhaust me, and distract me, ultimately I hurt my children. It's my privilege to be their life coach - to teach them life lessons - and no task is more important than this. It's important that we as moms preserve our time and energy so we don't miss the teachable moments. After all, we all want to raise healthy, reasonable, well-adjusted members of society.
